Description

Based on two of Joe's previous books, this comprehensive guide will take you through all the processes of capturing water in watercolour.

Fully re-edited, this is no less than a complete course that you can follow right from the basics to successfully completing more complex scenes.

A handy survey of materials is followed by the immensely useful "How to make water look wet", which opens up a host of tricks and secrets of the trade that include colour blending, glazing, tonal contrast and much more. This is followed by advice on composition, which includes simple guides to format and perspective.

The rest of the book is devoted to an extended series of exercises and projects that will have you developing your skills as you work – apart from the basics, there's very little "book learning" here.

You'll learn how to handle both deep and shallow water, rivers that run fast and slow, how to handle reflections, movement, ripples, and puddles as well as seascapes. If it exists, Joe has a technique for it.

This is one of the most comprehensive guides to painting watercolour, and certainly the easiest to follow.
