Gaining popularity in Britain during the Romanticist movement, the watercolour technique begun to be favoured for its immediacy, linked to the authentic expression of emotion. The technique offered spontaneity, lightness of touch, fluidity and transparency, allowing a quick translation of a particular light, vibration or shape; the beginnings of Sennelier watercolours are to be found in the self-same Impressionist school.

The intense pigments, Gum Arabic and honey combination in these paints offer incomparable quality of application, producing superb washes. The honey preserves, but also gives a brilliance and smoothness to the paint.
