Lian Quan Zhen is an internationally renowned artist and teacher whose work will be familiar to many SAA members.

His style ranges from the very traditional to a more Western one that still retains links to his Chinese roots, using colours and brushstrokes that bring Oriental simplicity to subjects that will be more familiar to the general reader.

Although this is not a book of instruction, most of the illustrations are accompanied by a caption that explains the artist's approach, both to the subject and the way he has interpreted it. Every one is a virtuoso performance that will delight fans of both the Chinese style and of watercolour in general.

Lian Zhen paints a huge variety of subjects from land and waterscapes to animals, birds, buildings and people. He has a fine eye for detail, which he never overworks - his figures, in particular, are a masterclass in less-is-more. He is also a skilled exponent of the wash and of brushwork - the very staples of Chinese painting, of course.

Large-format, this is a book to treasure but, above all, learn from.
Book: North Light Books - Hardback - Colour Throughout - 190 pages.
