Since its inception, the SAA Bursary Scheme has been rewarding art groups who champion art as an uplifting and worthwhile pasttime. Now entering its sixth year, the SAA Bursary offers groups the chance to be awarded £500 worth of art materials. The materials can then used to encourage new members to visit the group and inspire more and more people to start getting creative!
The winner of the SAA Bursary 2010, Mrs Peggy Randall, wrote to us recently to let us know just how much of a difference the art materials have made to her group, the Thurrock Society for Artists with Disabilities. Following the tragic loss of one of the society's founding members, the art supplies provided by the SAA Bursary represented a ray of sunlight in the lives of the society's members. When the society started meeting again in September 2010, Peggy tells us, every one of them was "open-mouthed" at the wide array of materials provided by the Bursary - including brushes, DVDs, pastels, watercolour paper and much more.
Since that time the society has gone from strength to strength, and its members are still enjoying the SAA art materials to this day. As Peggy tells us, "I believe that good quality brushes are the most important 'tool' in the box, and our members are now blessed with the best tools we can provide." And all thanks to the SAA!
