Jackie Barrass provides an inspirational and practical guide to painting beautiful watercolours which capture the essence of light.

Using over 40 specially commissioned step-by-step photographs and a variety of expressive and atmospheric pictures, she clearly illustrates how to convey the mood of a painting by concentrating on the type and direction of light - from brightly lit Mediterranean scenes to stunning buildings at dusk.

Contents include basic watercolour techniques, form, tone, composition, painting a chapel at last light, painting a backlit lily and painting a Greek stairway in shadow.

Jackie Barrass worked in International Banking for sixteen years, before deciding to devote more time to her interest in art. She now earns a living from painting. Her expressive watercolours can be seen at the annual exhibitions in London by the Society of Women Artists, and they can also be found in galleries in and around Surrey where she lives. She enjoys the freedom of outdoor painting as well as the more considered approach of studio work. Jackie's other interests include gardening, furniture restoration and photography.
