Pastel Techniques
Barry explores diferent ways of using pastel. Applying pastel over watercolour or Indian ink produces a strong range of tones, whilst water added to pastel results in interestng textures and rich colours. His linear and broken colour technique gives an impressionistic feel and pastel applied in layers produces a very strong vibrant painting. An exciting film with a wealth of new ideas for pastellists
Mood and Atmosphere in Pastel
Barry selects his subjects with care, showing us how to produce wonderfully atmospheric paintings. Working out of doors, he paints a building and meadow bathed in a warm, evening light and a panoramic view over the Quantocks on a hazy summer's day. In his studio and working from sketches he paints a river at sunset in the flat landscape of the Levels and a dramatic view of Porlock Weir.
