Many artists appreciate the benefit of being able to stretch their own canvas to their own tastes. Here you will find quality wooden stretcher bars, available in 17 different sizes, all 22mm deep.
These stretcher pieces are slightly deeper than the economy stretcher bars, and have a lip that stands slightly more proud to hold the canvas a little further away from the bar. These bars come in pairs, with 4 wedges included with each pair. Note that the dimensions in centimetres are accurate, the inches are approximate. Made in Europe.
To make a frame you need to buy two pairs of stretcher bars (priced below per pair). For example, to make a frame 45cm x 60cm you would need to buy one pair of 45cm stretcher bars and one pair of 60cm.
Generally speaking you need to buy a frame that is 5cm smaller than the canvas (in both length and width) to allow for overlap on the sides, so the canvas size to fit an 45cm x 60cm frame should be approx. 50cm x 65cm.
Similarly to buy a frame for a canvas 60cm x 90cm, you would need one pair of 55cm and one pair of 85cm stretchers, and you will end up with a frame that is 55cm x 85cm.
