GOLDEN Gessos and Grounds offer artists a variety of ways to prepare substrates for acrylic paintings or other art media such as oil, alkyds, charcoal, pastels and watercolour.
Gesso can be thought of as the bridge between the support and the paint. GOLDEN Gesso is designed to penetrate a support and provide a surface for the adherence of paint. Proper preparation of the support with GOLDEN Gesso can increase the life span of the artwork. GOLDEN Gesso is formulated to be flexible and is highly pigmented for opaque coverage.
A Ground is a product that provides a desired surface on which to paint. Grounds can provide a surface to apply pastels, watercolour or other products.
GOLDEN White and Black Gessos are ready-to-use liquid grounds formulated for the use of acrylics on any commonly used painting surface. They are flexible and can be applied in thin layers to conform to a variety of textured surfaces without cracking. For oil painting over acrylic gesso, it is recommended that at least three layers of gesso be applied. GOLDEN Gesso can be mixed with GOLDEN Acrylics to produce a range of coloured grounds.
GOLDEN Sandable Hard Gesso is formulated with 100% acrylic polymer emulsion and can be sanded to provide surfaces that are smoother and more even than those created using regular gesso.
GOLDEN Absorbent Ground is an acrylic liquid surfacing medium that dries to a porous, paper-like surface. Applied over gessoed canvas, it allows for raw canvas-like staining and watercolour effects. Lightfast, permanent and flexible. Available in white and canvas colour. Not for use by children.
GOLDEN Acrylic Ground for Pastels is an acrylic ground for the preparation of canvas and other supports for pastels. It provides a tooth similar to papers designed for pastel and chalk. To increase tooth, add GOLDEN Fine or Coarse Pumice Gel. The product can be blended with GOLDEN Acrylic colours for coloured grounds.
